This publication examines the dynamics of male sex tourism in Costa Rica through the analysis of over 4,000 forum posts from InternationalSexGuide.info between 2002 and 2015. It compares these online interactions with previous academic hypotheses and conceptual frameworks related to intimacy, gender, and sex tourism. The study highlights that, besides financial disparity, traditional gender roles underly the different ways in which men and women plan for and experience their visits to Costa Rica that involve paid sex and personal connections. This resource can help anti-trafficking practitioners understand patterns in demand and social behaviors that may fuel exploitation in the context of sex tourism.
