Law Compendium

Costa Rica has a robust legal framework to combat trafficking in persons and protect trafficking victims. Relevant legal instruments are listed below.

Links to pdf versions of each law are provided, as well as to the law on the Costa Rican Legal Information System (SCIJ). Unofficial translations to English are provided when available.

Laws are categorized by those that specifically address trafficking in persons in Costa Rica, as well as those that address related issues that may be relevant in trafficking in persons cases.

In addition, there are international instruments addressing trafficking in persons and related issues in force in Costa Rica that, to the extent that they grant greater rights and guarantees to individuals, prevail over the Political Constitution.
